Hi there! I’m Vivian. Welcome here! This is a space for you to get to know me, learn about my teaching, and experience my written and musical work.

Here’s my story.

I fell in love with the violin at 5 years old and stayed in love through hearing my teachers play incredible music with a golden, shining sound I had to learn to replicate. I joined a youth orchestra at 8 years old and discovered how incredible it is to play with others. My youth orchestra conductors, choir directors and chamber music coaches taught me that all music has a story connected with it. Some music tells a story, like opera; other pieces came about as a result of a story, like Alexander Borodin’s tribute to his wife with his Second String Quartet. I realized I wanted to be a musician professionally and tell those stories through performances and teaching.

My journey with music has given me some incredible experiences, like:

  • performing as a soloist with a local orchestra,
  • performing at weddings,
  • performing in events and performances with world-famous artists like The Piano Guys,
  • working as a studio artist with F5 SoundHouse in Minneapolis,
  • being featured on MPR with my string quartet in 2017,
  • touring Cuba and Mexico with youth and college orchestras,
  • attending Green Mountain, Green Lake and Killington Chamber Music Festivals,
  • teaching in the community as an intern with Houston Orchestra for All,
  • studying music performance and art for a semester in Vienna, Austria.

I’ve had challenges along the way, too.

Throughout my high school and college years, I struggled with playing-related repetitive stress injuries that impeded my musical development and almost ended my career. I realized that I was far from the only one with injury difficulties, as I watched my teachers and peers live with playing-related pain, injury and mental health issues. Ironically, my injuries became the best thing to happen to my career. My aspirations changed from simply being a performer to helping musicians lead healthy, happy and fulfilling lives through education and health awareness.

I am a proud and passionate teacher and have assumed a variety of roles throughout my 7 years of teaching. I’m now privately teaching violin and piano in Greensboro, North Carolina! You can find out more about my studio on the Teaching page.

I consider life-long learning an essential part of being an excellent teacher. I continue my pedagogy education with instruction in the Suzuki method, the Paul Rolland method, summer workshops all over the country, and private lessons to continue honing my craft.

Educating children and families in music is my honor and joy.

I’m so glad you’re here!
